Bolga baskets are handmade in farming villages in the Bolgatanga region of Northern Ghana, and are perhaps the best known of all African baskets. They are woven from local grass and usually have a goat skin handle. Thick tall Elephant grass which grows abundantly in the Northern Region of Ghana is used to make these baskets. The women have developed a livelihood out of their craftsmanship and every purchase goes a long way to support these women to provide for their families. These durable baskets are the ideal as a farmer’s market baskets. They are also great for storing magazines, yarn and just anything.
